Narrative Structures and Visual Storytelling

Dieses Symposium behandelt die Rolle und Umsetzungstechniken von visuellem Erzählen (“Visual Storytelling”) in Literatur, Illustration, Comics und Animation. Internationale Experten werden dieses faszinierende Thema in vielfältigen Vorträgen behandeln. Die Themen verhandeln zum Beispiel die Beziehung der Wahl der grafischen Mittel im Verhältnis zum dargestellten Inhalt, dramaturgisch motivierte Colorierungstechniken in Comics und Animation und die Umsetzung von Text in (bewegte) Bilder. Highlights der Konferenz werden die Keynote-Präsentationen international renommierter Experten sein, angefragt ist u.a. David Silverman, bekannt als Regisseur der „Simpsons“.
Das Symposium ist hoch interdisziplinär und international angelegt. Es vereint akademische Experten mit Praktikern, um die vielfältigen Aspekte des Themas abzudecken. Das Symposium wird organisiert vom Internationalen Trickfilmfestival Stuttgart 2016 in Kollaboration mit der Society of Animation Studies, der School of Art, Design and Media an der Nanyang Technological University Singapore, dem Institut für Medienwissenschaft an der Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, der AG Animation und dem Literaturhaus Stuttgart.

The symposium negotiates the role and use of narrative structure and visual storytelling in literature, illustration, graphic storytelling and animation. International experts will address this fascinating theme in presentations. Topics include the relationship between color and visual storytelling, choices of graphic techniques in adaptations for comics and animation and the socio-cultural context of color in illustration, animation and comics. We will welcome internationally renowned experts from around the globe plus a highly distinguished keynote speaker.
The symposium is aiming to be highly interdisciplinary and international in nature, bringing together scholars, students, academics and artists from diverse fields of research and professional practice.
An academic symposium at the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film 2016 in collaboration with the Society of Animation Studies, the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University Singapore, the Institute of Media Studies at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, the AG Animation and the Literaturhaus Stuttgart.
