Abhandengekommene Gewissheiten / Fotografische Positionen

Vom 23. Mai bis zum 28. Juni zeigt das Institut francais Stuttgart „Certainties are Suspended“ (Abhandengekommene Gewissheiten), eine Ausstellung, deren Fokus auf vier spannenden afrikanischen und afrodiasporischen Künstler*innen liegt. Im Rahmen des Festivals „Membrane: African Literatures and Ideas“ präsentiert die Ausstellung neuere Foto- und experimentelle Videoarbeiten von Lola Keyezua, Samira Messner, Fabrice Monteiro und Nicolas Premier. Die multimedialen, über dokumentarische Zuschreibungen hinausgehenden Arbeiten setzen sich mit Geschichte, Affekt, Gegenwärtigkeit und der fortwahrenden Produktion von Zukunftsentwürfen auseinander: Aspekte, die das Wesen einer jeden Gesellschaft ausmachen. Dabei protokollieren, erweitern und ergründen sie Lebensrealitäten, die sich einfachen Gewissheiten entziehen und zu einem zweiten Blick auffordern.

Certainties are Suspended / Photographic Positions
From May 23 through June 28 2019, the Institut francais Stuttgart presents “Certainties are Suspended”, an exhibition focusing on four exciting African and Afrodiasporic artists. In the context of the festival “Membrane: African Literatures and Ideas”, the exhibition presents recent photographic and experimental video work by Lola Keyezua, Samira Messner, Fabrice Monteiro and Nicolas Premier. The multimedia work on show transcends the purely documentary, engaging with history, affect, presence and the dynamic production of future(s): the aspects that constitute the essence of any society. The works document, expand and investigate realities that elude simple certainties and demand a second look.
