Das Tagessymposium "Sound in animation, comics and illustration" lädt im Rahmen des diesjährigen Internationalen Trickfilmfestivals (ITFS) interdisziplinäre internationale Experten aus Praxis, Lehre und Forschung nach Stuttgart ins Literaturhaus ein. Behandelt werden Themen wie "Filmmusik für Animation", "transkulturelle Zusammenarbeit für Animations-Soundtracks", "Soundwords in Comics" und "Sounddesign-Anwendungen in interaktiven Comics". In Zusammenarbeit mit der Society of Animation Studies, der School of Art, Design and Media an der Nanyang Technological University Singapore, dem Institut für Medienwissenschaft an der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, der AG Animation und dem Literaturhaus Stuttgart.

The author of The Walt Disney Archives (Taschen 2016) talks about the general importance of film music for Disney's films,
a newly discovered uncompleted Disney opera project and the contemporary practice of scoring animated films.

East meets West-A Transcultural Soundtrack Collaboration
Since 2013 Sound Design students from the Musikhochschule Trossingen in Baden-Württemberg are scoring
graduation films of Digital Animation students from the School of Art, Design and Media at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore.
This talk allows insight into this successful transcultural endeavour and shows the best films that were created.

The paper discusses the function of sound words in Hunt Emerson’s comic version (2007) of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” (1797/1834).
